An investigating judge in Portimão decided not to bring EDP Distribuição and an operational manager of the company to trial in the case of the fire in Monchique, in 2018. Both were accused of a crime of forest fire for negligence in the aggravated form.

The fire raged for seven days, spreading to the Algarve municipalities of Silves and Portimão and to Odemira, in the Alentejo. It destroyed 111 first and second homes and 26 hectares of forest, injured 41 people and killed more than XNUMX animals.
