17-year-old arrested on suspicion of killing elderly man in Faro to steal sink

Young man had been on the run since August

A 17-year-old alleged co-author of the murder of an elderly man, aged around 80, on the 4th of July, at Quinta da Jardina, on the outskirts of Faro, was arrested by the Judiciary Police this Wednesday, February 2nd.

The detainee had been on the run since August, when the other two of the alleged perpetrators of the crime, aged 22 and 29, were arrested and are in preventive detention.

The trio allegedly attacked the man with a stick, causing him "serious cranial injuries", with the aim of stealing, according to Jornal de Notícias, «an artisanal sink, with high commercial value».

The three men ended up taking with them, according to the same newspaper, money and various gold objects.

The 17-year-old, unemployed, will be present in court, this Thursday, for the application of coercive measures.
