Covid-19: More than 80 thousand requests for family support in the 1st week of January

Social Security received 81 requests for family support for the first week of January, when schools closed due to the pandemic, a number close to the maximum recorded in the 2021 confinement.

«Between the 1st and 10th of February, Social Security received 81 thousand requests for exceptional support to the family for the month of January», an official source from the Ministry of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security told Lusa.

According to the office, the numbers are close to the maximums recorded in the general confinement that took place in early 2021.

At that time, in January 2021, the number of support to the family amounted to 67 thousand, in February to 95 thousand and in March to 85 thousand, indicates the ministry led by Ana Mendes Godinho.

The number verified now in the first week of 2022, the second week of containment of contacts decreed by the Government, when schools closed, is also more than double that verified in the last week of December 2021, when daycare centers and leisure activities (ATL) have closed.

At that time, around 40 claims were processed.

The deadline for employers to submit requests for exceptional family support to Social Security for the second week of containment, enacted in January, due to the closure of schools, ran from 1 to 10 February.

At issue are companies whose workers had to stay at home to provide assistance to children under the age of 12, between 2 and 9 January, due to the closure of schools, as a result of restrictions decreed by the Government to contain the pandemic. of covid-19.

The family support form is first delivered by the worker to the company and then the employer requests Social Security support, which in turn is paid directly to the company.

Support for the family was also applied between 27 and 31 December, the first week of containment of contacts decreed by the Government, in which daycare centers and leisure activities (ATL) were closed.

In December, in the first week of containment, 41,9 requests for exceptional family support were delivered for the last week of December 2021, as an official source from the Ministry of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security advanced to Lusa.

The support for the last week of December was paid on January 28, in the amount of 2,1 million euros.

The amount of support is 66% of the base salary, but it can rise to 100%, with a limit of 1.995 euros (for 2021) and 2.115 euros (for 2022) in certain situations, namely when both parents benefit from the support alternately and in the case of single-parent families.

The minimum support limit corresponds to the value of the national minimum wage, that is, it is 665 euros for 2021 and 705 euros for 2022, being paid according to the number of days the worker is absent.
