Covid-19: Algarve and Alentejo below 500 new cases

The Algarve and Alentejo are today, for the first time in many weeks, below 500 new cases of Covid-19, according to data from the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health, this Sunday, 27 February.

Thus, in the Algarve region, there were 424 more infections with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in the last 24 hours, while in Alentejo, there are 393 new cases. After yesterday, new infections fell below 10 nationally (there were 9851), this Sunday the data points to a new low (+ 7107).

In the opposite direction, the data point to a new rise in the number of deaths, which were 38, 10 more than the previous day.

Hospitalizations also rose again: thus, there are now 1396 Covid-19 patients hospitalized in hospitals nationwide (+18 than yesterday), of which 102 in Intensive Care (+1).

Despite the decrease in the number of new cases and because the number of recovered people is low (only + 612), data from the DGS point to a new increase in active cases across the country, reversing the trend of recent days. There are now 452 patients, 758 more than yesterday.

The risk matrix was updated on Friday and shows a transmissibility index R(t) of 0,73, at national level, and of 0,71, taking into account only mainland Portugal.

The incidence is already at 2222,5 cases of infection per 100 thousand inhabitants, at the national level, and at 2157,4 cases, excluding the Autonomous Regions.
