The future building of the Bordeira Cultural and Innovation Center already has its structure «finished», lacking «the more detailed and more time-consuming work», explained the Mayor of Faro, during the visit that the mayor promoted to the works. Rogério Bacalhau hopes that the works will be concluded «at the beginning of next year».

«This is a project conceived a few years ago and comes from an aspiration of the Bordeira community to have cultural equipment here», explained the mayor to journalists, during the visit that took place last week, as part of the cycle “Faro Positive".

The mayor of Faro said that «it is not very natural to make such equipment, with this dimension, outside urban areas», but he is sure that «Bordeira has a very strong associative and cultural movement that will make this space profitable».

Called to explain the Bordeira Cultural and Innovation Center project, António Palma, municipal architect, announced that there will be a concert hall, «with a capacity for around 170 people», a governed equipped, a meeting room, as well as a bar/restaurant, «which will serve those who come to watch the activities that take place here».

There will also be two exhibition areas, which will have the support of a team from the Municipal Museum of Faro in the investigation and construction of the narratives of these spaces.

Although the work is still at a preliminary stage, the Mayor explained that one of the spaces will be dedicated to «preserving the memory of the stone, disseminating it and making known an area where this raw material is worked a lot, both raw and as in a more artistic style», and the other will be for the accordion, which also has great traditions in the land.

Architect António Palma revealed that this project «was a challenge», as Sociedade Bordeirense «wanted a concert hall with 300 square meters». The challenge was met and, «despite the building having many cuts», other complementary spaces are being built.

On the first floor, there will be a multipurpose area intended mainly for rehearsals and the programming of cultural activities and events. The building also has a basement with several rooms and compartments, where the bathrooms will be.

As for the inauguration of the Cultural Centre, the prospects are that it will be ready at the beginning of next year, «in time for us to receive the charolas in this space», highlighted Rogério Bacalhau.

The construction of this building represents a municipal investment of just over 1,5 million euros, and has a community funding of 15%, following the candidacy of the Chamber of Faro to CRESC Algarve 2020, funds managed by the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission.

With the construction of this Cultural and Innovation Center in Bordeira, the municipality intends to acquire an adjacent land to «serve for cultural activities, but also, at a given moment, for parking».
