The three Ciência Viva centers in the Algarve will receive more than 700 thousand euros, financed by the Algarve Operational Program, to produce quality digital educational resources and collaboration tools in digital environments that promote innovation in the teaching-learning process, encourage creativity and innovation, allow remote monitoring of the classroom and collaborative work online.

These resources will then be made available to teachers/trainers and students/trainees of professional courses, apprenticeship courses, technological specialization courses and adult education and training courses.

The production of digital teaching resources will be in charge of the three Ciência Viva Centers (CCV) in the Algarve (Faro, Lagos and Tavira), in partnership with the University of the Algarve and the Institute for Employment and Professional Training and Tourism of Portugal, the latter targeting their students and trainees.

Luís Azevedo Rodrigues, director of CCV Lagos, which just a few days ago completed 13 years of existence, explained to the Sul Informação that this entity «will produce audiovisual content dedicated to technical and professional education, anchored on the theme of the Algarve natural heritage».

The project applied for by CCV Lagos, which will receive 292.641,76 euros, is called «Natural Heritage transformed into Digital Didactic Resources (PaNReD)» and will allow the production of 10 innovative digital teaching resources, including 36 different themes, dedicated to the Algarve natural heritage, for the teaching and professional training of courses taught in the region.

It is intended, therefore, to strengthen skills in these areas of knowledge, but also in ICT.

The project «is based on the Natural Heritage of the Algarve, on Sustainability, on the Geological and Paleontological Heritage, on Biodiversity and on the Natural Landscape», explained Luís Azevedo Rodrigues.

PaNReD «will act as a bridge between Education, Science, Communication and Innovation, producing innovative digital didactic content aimed at professional training».

The partners in this CCV Lagos project are the University of Algarve, the School Groups of Lagos, Vila do Bispo and Aljezur, the Association of Municipalities Terras do Infante and FOR-MAR.

The Algarve CCV, located in Faro, will receive 208.588,53 euros for its project «Operação Pr'Oceano – Protect the Ocean, why and how?», whose main objective is to develop a total of 9 innovative digital teaching resources, including 36 different themes, dedicated to to the Ocean for the education and professional training of the courses taught in the Algarve region.

These resources will allow «strengthening skills in this area of knowledge but different, dedicated to the Ocean for teaching and professional training of courses taught in the Algarve region, allowing to strengthen skills in this area of knowledge but also in ICT».

In addition to the University of Algarve, the Agrupamento de Escolas Tomás Cabreira, in Faro.

Finally, the CCV of Tavira will receive 205.864,74 euros to develop its «DiMEd» project. The digital educational resources developed in this area have to do with the different dimensions of the Mediterranean Diet.

They will be supported in a virtual environment, aiming at the improvement and innovation of contents that are part of the professional training offer, and thus contribute to the promotion of school success and adaptation to the needs and sectoral transformations of the region.

The project proposes to develop a vast set of resources, associated with the Mediterranean diet, in the areas of health, gastronomy and heritage.

The digital teaching resources to be developed must be tested and made available to the vocational education and training network by the end of the 1st semester of 2023.

«The expected impact of these measures should translate into an improvement in the scientific literacy indicators of young people from the Algarve and in the growth of vocational options for STEAM professional areas [science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics], supporting the demand for sectors of activity that contribute to the diversification of the regional economic base», explains the Committee for Coordination and Regional Development (CCDR) of the Algarve, which approved the applications.
