Sharing resources among hospitals in Faro and Portimão and the commitment of health professionals make it possible to maintain

The care of children in the Emergency Department of the Hospital Unit of Faro will be resumed, starting tomorrow, the 26th, has just announced the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve.

In a note signed by Horácio Guerreiro, clinical director of CHUA, it is explained that «this solution results from the sharing of specialized resources between our hospital units (Faro and Portimão), as well as the commitment of the health professionals who contributed to keep the two services running».

Thus, this Saturday and Sunday, February 26th and 27th, care will be provided at the Pediatrics Emergency Service of Faro by three general practitioners, with experience in the care of children. The CHUA Emergency Pediatrician will remain at the Portimão Hospital Unit.

The note adds that "on both days, serious cases will have the support of the Pediatric Intensive Care Service in Faro, and the less serious cases, which need to be evaluated by a Pediatrician, will be referred to Portimão».

During this period, in addition to the emergency pediatrician, “there will be pediatricians in the Intensive Care Unit in the Faro and a pediatrician at the Portimão Maternity Support Unit».

However, this Friday, the 25th, the Pediatric Emergency Department in Faro will remain closed, "so only urgent clinical situations that cannot be transported to Portimão, or that require intensive or surgical care will be treated." These cases, «which are expected to be exceptional, will be treated by a doctor from the General Emergency Department».

This morning, CHUA had announced that the Pediatric Emergency Department at the hospital in Faro would be closed until sunday, including due to «the shortage of pediatric doctors» and the fact that some are «on sick leave».
