In 1985, the WFTGA (World Federation of Tourist Guide Association) was created, bringing together the many thousands of professionals from this important professional segment of tourism, highlighting the high universal importance of this activity.

As a corollary of the associative experience and the expansion of tourism itself, the WFTGA, to celebrate the profile and professionalism of these agents, instituted in 1990 the «International Day of the Interpreter Guide», which is celebrated all over the world on 21 February.

According to the WFTGA, one of the main objectives is to insert the activity of its members into local life as true ambassadors of the region to those who visit us.

Despite the vicissitudes experienced by tourism due to the Covid 19 pandemic, AGIGARVE emphasizes that it has “developed a truly meritorious action, which will now be lived and reinforced in Loulé”, with these celebrations.

The Association adds that, «among the flags held by AGIGARVE, there is the regulation, by the Assembly of the Republic, of the exercise of the profession of guide-interpreter, whose text has already been accepted for discussion by the various parliamentary groups and the respective Commission».
