"Saúde em Dia: Let's talk about Alzheimer's Disease" is the theme of the next informative session, to take place next Tuesday, February 15, at 10:30 am, at the Amphitheater of the Parish Council of Quarteira, promoted by the 360º Algarve Health Area, in partnership with the Portuguese Association of Relatives and Friends of Alzheimer's Patients – Algarve Nucleus.
The initiative, which is aimed at the Algarve’s elderly community, will also be broadcast online to the Day Centers and Residential Institutions for the Elderly that are partners in the project, “thus increasing the impact of the session with the target audience”, says Espaço Saúde 360º. Algarve.
The session «intends to promote health literacy on dementia through credible, simple and objective information, while contributing to a change in the way these pathologies are seen by society».
«Analyzing the causes and ways of preventing the disease, addressing its impact on the behavior and quality of life of the patient and family, as well as analyzing the resources currently available to support these patients and caregivers, in order to alleviate the impact of the pathology» , are some of the topics to be addressed in the session.
«It is urgent to create answers for people with dementia, especially when in Portugal the number of people with these pathologies exceeds the European trend, and is expected to double by 2050. It is data like these that lead us to act and want to do more», says Ricardo Valente Santos, psychologist and manager of the Espaço Saúde 360º Algarve project.
That's why we develop initiatives like this one, which aim to enlighten patients and their families, and help them find the necessary support to improve their quality and life», emphasizes the psychologist.
Edite Reis, coordinator of the Algarve Center of the Portuguese Association of Family and Friends of Alzheimer's Patients and Margarida Ferreira, a neuropsychologist also from the Center, will be present at the session, who will «demystify the topic and clarify all doubts and concepts about this pathology», explains the Espaço Saúde 360º Algarve.
The session is part of the “Saúde em Dia” activity, «a set of informative sessions that aim to clarify the Algarve population on important topics related to the health area, through simple and objective communication, which demystifies some erroneous concepts».
To this end, they count on «the support of health professionals and patient associations associated with Plataforma Saúde em Diálogo, who join in this mission of promoting health literacy within the elderly community of the Algarve».
The initiative is free and open to the general public, upon mandatory registration here.
