Volta ao Algarve, “Mostra Silves – Capital da Laranja” and exhibition liven up February

Sport is the highlight

The Volta ao Algarve, the “Mostra Silves – Capital da Laranja” and a painting exhibition are some of the suggestions and activities that promise to liven up the Algarve during the month of February.

Sport is the biggest highlight of the month.

From the 16th to the 20th, the 48th edition of the Volta ao Algarve by bike takes place, divided into five stages spread across different locations in the Algarve and Alentejo.

The race will start on the 16th, in Portimão, heading to Albufeira, Almodôvar, Vila Real de Santo António and Lagoa. This edition will feature a renewed course, but it shares the same concept as the other editions and promises «stages for all profiles of runners», with a dozen teams from the first division of world cycling already announced.

From the 18th to the 20th, the 6th edition of the Mostra Silves – Capital da Laranja takes place in Silves. For three days, the City Council organizes an event that aims to promote oranges and other citrus products and their respective producers, also promoting the territory of the municipality. The event will be guided by the presence of different musical artists, including Jorge Palma, on the 19th.

A highlight is also the 22nd edition of the Al-Mutamid Music Festival, which takes place on weekends, between the 19th of February and the 5th of March, in different locations.

This festival evokes the music that, for centuries, has been heard by the Gharb Al-Andalus, thus offering a musical journey that begins with Afro-Arabic songs (the 19th in Albufeira), goes through the Arab-Andalusi songs (the 26th, in Lagoa), continues with the melodies of Al-Andalus (04th and 05th, in Silves and Lagos, respectively) and ends with songs and dances from the Middle East and Maghreb (05th, in Loulé).

Still on the musical scene, Pedro Abrunhosa will perform on the 12th at Teatro das Figuras, in Faro. Marking the release of his 9th album of originals, Pedro Abrunhosa takes the stage accompanied by the Comité Caviar and the Orquestra Clássica do Sul.

Rodrigo Leão and the Youth Choir of Loulé perform on the first day of the month at Cineteatro Louletano, in Loulé. The concert will feature several of the artist's classic themes, present on the three albums released in 2020 and 2021.

Between the 24th and 26th of February, you can attend at Teatro das Figuras, in Faro, to a romantic comedy titled Indecent Intimacy, a love story with Eliane Giardini and Marcos Caruso. On the 12th, at the Cultural Center – Duval Pestana Auditorium, in Lagos, you will be able to watch the play Perfeitos Desconhecidos, with Ana Guiomar, Cláudia Semedo, Filipe Vargas, Jorge Mourato, Martinho Silva, Rita Brutt and Samuel Alves.

20 years after the premiere of the show O corpo, today, the Faro Theater das Figuras is the stage for the sequel to Ananeto, part of an Emergent Cycle, on February 3rd.

And it is in Albufeira that the taste for history is merged with that of painting through the Painting Exhibition Mundos Antigos, by Bem Helmink, between the 4th and 26th. The exhibition features a set of oil and acrylic paintings, inspired by the the ancient architecture of Greece and the architecture of Roman Italy.
