The photography and video exhibition “Sustain” will open on the 4th of February, at 18:00, at the Art Gallery of Convento do Espírito Santo, in Loulé, and can be visited until the 5th of April.

The artists featured in this exhibition are Elisa Azevedo, Evgenia Emets, Margarida Reis Pereira, Maria Oliveira, Nuno Barroso and Samuel Mountford, curated by Krzysztof Candrowicz, Pablo Berástegui and Virgílio Ferreira.

Sustain is a collaborative platform by Ci.CLO that promotes «the development of photographic and videographic projects with artistic perspectives on experimental initiatives in the area of sustainability», says the municipality of Loulé.

From the first edition results «the look of six artists on six initiatives in Portugal that are defined as sustainable alternatives to our interaction with the planet», namely POCITYF (Câmara de Évora), Núcleo Museológico do Sal (Câmara da Figueira da Foz), Algarvensis Geopark Loulé-Silves-Albufeira (Loulé City Council), Agroecological Transition (Mértola City Council), Setúbal Preserves Bairros do Grito do Povo and dos Pescadores (Setúbal City Council) and LIFE Montado-Adapt (EDIA).

The Sustain platform provided «meetings between curators, artists and specialists to analyze the work in progress», as well as «artistic residencies in each territory — vital and critical spaces to incubate new practices, examine methodologies and develop proactive dialogues».

In Loulé, Nuno Barroso's Geopark series speculates on the paradigms of the Algarvensis Geopark territory, through the exploration of the multi-reality around agriculture, energy and tourist activity.

The exhibition can be visited from Tuesday to Friday, from 9:30 am to 17:30 pm, and on Saturday, from 9:30 am to 16:00 pm.
