PS asks for opportunity to build new Algarve Central Hospital

Jamila Madeira expresses «her enormous satisfaction at the conclusion of this process»

PS Algarve emphasizes that "the inclusion of the former private hospital São Gonçalo in the National Health Service, replacing the former hospital in Lagos, is excellent news for the populations of Lagos, Vila de Bispo and Aljezur" and calls for a "second opportunity to to build the new Hospital Central do Algarve».

According to PS Algarve, Jamila Madeira, head of the PS list for the legislative elections for the Algarve circle, expresses "her enormous satisfaction at the conclusion of this process", recalling that the PS deputies presented in the Assembly of the Republic "an initiative where they underlined the importance of the Government to provide a modern hospital response that meets the needs of the populations of “Terras do Infante”».

The former Assistant Secretary of State for Health congratulated the board of directors of the Centro Hospitalar e Universitário do Algarve (CHUA) and all the mayors involved in this solution for the former Hospital de Lagos.

Jamila Madeira added that «this announced 'new year' gift is an excellent contribution to strengthening the quality of the National Health Service (SNS) in the Algarve and in the municipalities of the Southwest Alentejo».

The PS candidate also asked for a second chance to build the new Hospital Central do Algarve, reaffirming that, with her party, this project «is really going ahead» and that, once the legal uncertainties regarding the contract suspended in 2011 are overcome, « the PS Government will proceed with the signing of the contract for the award of the work».

«Who believes that the PSD will spend 300 million euros on a public hospital when its leader defends that the SNS should only be for the poor and those who have money should pay for healthcare? Who believes that the right that wants to end free health care and put the private in competition with the public again would build a new hospital for the poor and indigent?”

For the head of the list of Algarve socialists, «only with the PS and António Costa will we have a new Central Hospital in the Algarve, as we guarantee today a new building for the old hospital in Lagos, because only the PS defends a universal and tendentially free SNS» , concludes.
