Olhão creates Animal Welfare Monitoring Group

The Cabinet will meet on a quarterly basis

The Câmara de Olhão created an Animal Welfare Monitoring Group with associations of the municipality, whose first meeting took place last Friday, January 14th.

In a press release, the Municipality explains that it “invited the various associations of the municipality, including representatives of informal caregivers, with the aim of, together, finding the best solutions to help strays”.

Attended the meeting, chaired by councilor Ricardo Valé, responsible for Veterinary Medical Intervention and Public Health Defense, the Association for the Protection of Street Animals (APAR), the Association for the Defense of Animals and Plants of Olhão (ADAPO ), the Olhanense League of Friends of Abandoned Animals (LOAAA) and representatives of informal caregivers, as well as the Olhão Parish Council, with which the Municipality has a protocol to support feline colonies.

«The associations they represent are fundamental for the development of the animal cause, hence the importance of coming together to, together, outline the strategy for the defense of the animal cause for this year 2022», said Ricardo Calé.

The councilor also reinforced the idea that “if we get together, the animals will be better taken care of. And it is very important for us to know the experience of those who are on the ground 24 hours a day, which are all of you», added the mayor from Olhão, before the agreement of those present, who committed to helping to do the best for the animals in the county.

GABEA will meet on a quarterly basis, deepening and expanding the important role that the different stakeholders already have in this area.
