The Minister of Education said today, in Felgueiras, that in the last four days “more than 100 teachers and non-teachers” were vaccinated, indicating that “the vast majority” now have a booster dose.

“In the last four days, we were able to reinforce the vaccination of teachers and non-teachers. More than 100 have been vaccinated these days. There was already a set of about 85 who were vaccinated by age, previously. This means that the vast majority of teachers and non-teachers in our country have, at this moment, the dose of reinforcement", said the minister, in statements to journalists.

The official explained that the Directorate-General for Health said that it was “important, depending on the vaccination times, to test now all teaching and non-teaching workers – adults who had been vaccinated longer”, which is happening.

Tiago Brandão Rodrigues today marked the beginning of the school year, after the Christmas break, at Escola Secundária de Idães, Felgueiras, in the district of Porto, the first educational establishment in the country to close, on March 7 of last year, when the first cases of Covid-19 appeared in the region of Felgueiras and Lousada.

Still on vaccination with the booster dose, the minister recalled that “the health authorities said that teachers and non-teachers who could not be vaccinated with a digital password Casa Aberta during these four days, will be able to do so in the coming days, because they will continue to be a priority group'.

Regarding students, Tiago Brandão Rodrigues recalled that there was already “a very significant group of vaccinated young people, between 12 and 17 years old”, adding that there are “now, also, about 300 thousand children, between five and 11 years old”. ».

According to him, that number means that “about 50 percent” of children aged between five and 11 are already vaccinated.

On the visit to that school, accompanied by the mayor of Felgueiras, Nuno Fonseca, the minister was able to witness the carrying out of Covid-19 tests on teachers, which took place in that establishment.

By the way, the head of the Education portfolio in the Government told journalists that “this week, [the testing] will take place throughout the national territory”.

«There are about 220 thousand teachers, teachers, educators, non-teaching staff, to be tested throughout the country», he observed, recalling that there are also «municipalities carrying out testing in conjunction with local pharmacies».

“We can never forget that we have four free tests in local pharmacies, all over the country. And from this articulation, parents, schools and municipalities can also form partnerships with pharmacies, to increase testing», he stressed.

For Tiago Brandão Rodrigues, «this has been a huge asset, the fact that there is testing and vaccination».
