Loulé marks 34 years as a city with a magazine and concert by Rodrigo Leão with Coro Juvenil

The proposal to elevate Loulé to city status was approved on December 18, 1987, but only on February 1, 1988 was it published in the Diário da República.

The presentation of “Loulé” magazine, the attribution of the name of Joaquim Vairinhos to the Municipal Sports Pavilion and a concert by Rodrigo Leão with the Youth Choir of Loulé. These are the highlights of the celebrations for the 34th anniversary of Loulé becoming a city, on 1 February.

The day begins with the traditional hoisting of the National Flag, in the Town Hall, at 10:00 am.

At 10:30 am, attention will be focused on the Loulé Municipal Sports Pavilion, where a plaque will be unveiled with the name of the former mayor Joaquim Vairinhos, who will become the patron of this reference sports facility in the city.

Teacher/inspector of Basic Education, councilor and mayor of Loulé, MEP, association leader, athlete and, more recently, poet, «it was in all these areas that Joaquim Vairinhos played a decisive and inseparable role in the evolution of the city, from the municipality of Loulé and the Algarve region», says the municipality.

On that day, the launch of the “Loulé” Magazine is also planned, an issue dedicated to the history and stories of the old town, from the 80s to the present day.

Starting at 16:00 pm, the activity “Let's photograph the city of Loulé?” offers a guided tour of the city's streets and landmarks, with the possibility of recording every moment with your cell phone or camera. Interested parties may register by emailing [email protected] or calling 289 400 829 (participation is free, but limited to 15 people).

In the evening, at 21 pm, the musician Rodrigo Leão joins the Youth Choir of Loulé to present “A Estranha Beleza da Vida”, at Cineteatro Louletano.

This show, in which Rodrigo Leão presents himself as Rodrigo Leão Cinema Project, brings together repertoire from the three albums released in 2020 and 2021 (“O Method”, “Avis 2020” and “A Estranha Beleza da Vida”), as well as a selection of composer's classical themes. It is therefore quite eclectic, with a wide range of musical styles.

The proposal to elevate Loulé to city status was approved on December 18, 1987, but only on February 1, 1988 was it published in the Diário da República.
