Legislativas2022: PS won in Algarve but this was the region where it obtained the 3rd lowest result

The votes in the Algarve, by party, in relation to the national as a whole and in comparison with the other regions

The Algarve was the region of mainland Portugal where the PS obtained its 3rd lowest result in the Legislative Elections this Sunday, January 30th. in the circle of Faro, where, despite this, the socialists elected the same 5 deputies they already had, António Costa's party got 39,87% of the votes.

Lower percentages only in Aveiro (34,48%) and Leiria (35,73%). Even so, the PS was the most voted party in all constituencies in the country, with the exception of Madeira, where the PSD won, but in alliance with the CDS (39,83%).

The circles where the socialists achieved the best performance were Castelo Branco (47,65%), Portalegre (47,21%) and Setúbal (45,73%).

The PS elected 117 deputies (11 more than in 2019) across the country (not counting those from emigration circles), of which 5 in the Algarve. Obtained an absolute majority.

The PSD, which, as seen above, only won in Madeira and in alliance with the CDS, was the 2nd most voted party at national level in 18 of the 20 constituencies in the country, including the Autonomous Regions.

On the mainland, only in Beja were the social democrats (15,94%) surpassed by the CDU on the voting podium (18,42%).

The districts on the mainland where the PSD obtained the highest percentage of votes were Bragança (40,28%), followed a short distance away by Vila Real (40,01%) and then by Viseu (36,81%).

Those with the lowest percentages were Beja (15,94%), Setúbal (16,15%) and Lisbon (24,16%).

In the Algarve, the PSD reached 24,35% of the votes, having managed to maintain the same number of deputies as it had before (3).

The PSD elected 71 deputies (6 less than in 2019) across the country (not counting those from emigration circles), of which 3 in the Algarve.

CHEGA was the 3rd most voted party in the country (7,15%) and repeated this feat in 18 of the 20 constituencies.

The exceptions were Madeira, where CH was overtaken by the regional JPP party (6,86%) and Lisbon, where Cotrim Figueiredo's Liberal Initiative had 7,9%, slightly more than the 7,77% of André's party. Ventura. It elected a total of 12 deputies, one of which in the Algarve.

The Bloco de Esquerda lost its only deputy in the Algarve, standing by a vote of 5,76% in the region, being the 4th most voted force by the Algarve. Even so, it was the best performance of the Bloc at the national level, where it was 5th (after PS, PSD, CH and IL), with 4,46%.

BE's worst vote was in Bragança (2,09%). It lost 14 deputies, from 19 in the 2019 Legislatures to 6 now.

The 5th political force in the preferences of the Algarve voters was the CDU, with 4,81% of the votes. Once again, a better result in the Algarve than at the national level, where the communists came in 6th.

The best vote of the Coalition was obtained in Beja, where it was the 2nd most voted force, with 18,42%. Évora followed, where 14,56% of the votes were not enough to elect their head of the list (and former parliamentary leader) João Oliveira, and Setúbal (10,05%). CDU's worst result was in Bragança (1,36%).

The CDU halved its parliamentary representation, from 12 to 6 deputies.

Iniciativa Liberal, 6th in the Algarve, was one of the big winners of the night. It went from 1 elected deputy in 2019 to 8 in these Legislative Elections (4,98%).

In the Algarve, it obtained only 4,64% of the votes, but in Lisbon, where it was the 3rd force, it reached 7,9% of the votes (best result in the whole country). The worst were in Bragança (1,60%) and Vila Real (1,80%).

The PAN People Animals Nature, 7th in the preferences of the Algarve (2,16%), achieved in our region not only a ranking higher than at the national level (where it was 8th), as well as a higher percentage (it was 1,53% nationwide).

It only managed to elect its leader as a deputy in Lisbon, going from 4 to 1 parliamentarian.

LIVRE, which had its best result in Lisbon, where it elected 1 deputy (2,44%), was the 8th most voted in the Algarve, with 1.08%.

Finally, of the parties that elected or used to elect deputies, what remains to be mentioned is the CDS, which disappeared from the parliamentary map, as it failed to elect a single deputy.

It is the first time that this has happened in the history of this founding party of current Portuguese Democracy. At the national level, the CDS obtained 1,61% of the votes of the Portuguese, even so, a little more than the 1.08% achieved in the Algarve.
