INSA predicts maximum cases in the first or second week of January

Estimated epidemiologist Baltazar Nunes at today's Infarmed meeting

The maximum number of Covid-19 cases can be reached in this first or second week of January, estimated today the epidemiologist Baltazar Nunes, from the National Health Institute Dr. Ricardo Jorge (INSA), even predicting that between 4% to 12% of the population can be quarantined.

"We assume that the maximum number of cases is expected for the first week or the second week of January", said the specialist at the Infarmed meeting in Lisbon, explaining that these data are based on scenarios.

On the other hand, for each infected person there will be three who will need to be in quarantine, missing work or school, pointed out the INSA investigator.

"We can assume that the total number of people who can be isolated in quarantine can range from 4% of the population to about 12% of the population", a figure that can be observed either "in the current first week or between the second week of January ”, highlighted Baltazar Nunes at the meeting that brings together experts, politicians, members of the Government and the President of the Republic to analyze the epidemiological situation in the country.
