Covid-19: More than 50 thousand children from 5 to 11 years old started vaccination on Friday

More than 100 people received vaccines against Covid-19 and the flu on Friday, of which 50.299 children aged 5 to 11 years started immunization against the new coronavirus.

The data are contained in the daily report of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) on vaccination against Covid-19 and seasonal flu made in mainland Portugal released on Saturday.

According to the DGS, 100.326 people were vaccinated on Friday against Covid-19 (initiated or complete vaccination schedule and booster) and seasonal flu.

Of this total, 43.395 people were inoculated with the booster dose against the new coronavirus, 5.505 completed the Covid-19 vaccination, 1.127 received the flu vaccine and 50.299 children aged 5 to 11 years started the Covid-19 immunization.

The second period of vaccination against Covid-19 for children between 5 and 11 years old started on Thursday and ends on Sunday.

On the same days, booster doses are administered, in an “open house” modality (without scheduling) through a digital password, specifically for the school community (teachers and employees of elementary and secondary schools, day care centers and ATL).

In the accumulated total, since the respective vaccination campaigns began, more than 8,7 million people have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, more than 3,2 million the booster dose and more than 2,4 million the flu's vacine.

Among children aged 5 to 11 years, 196.087 began vaccination against Covid-19, with one dose.

From February 5th to March 13th, the second doses will be administered, when the vaccination schedule for this age group will be completed, estimates the Government.

In the first vaccination period for children aged between 5 and 11, which took place over the weekend of December 18 and 19, 95.752 minors were immunized with Pfizer's pediatric dose.
