Centro Ciência Viva de Lagos exhibits portraits of Portuguese birds

Initiative will be inaugurated this Saturday, January 29

“Na Mira do Voo – portraits of Portuguese birds” is the name of the photographic exhibition, by António Granado, which will feature, from the 29th of January, 45 photographs of some Portuguese birds, which can be visited at the Centro Ciência Viva de Lagos (CCVL).

The photographic exhibition aims to mark the 12 years of operation of the CCVL, inaugurated on the 29th of January 2009, but also to contribute to the dissemination of the natural heritage, in this case, the Portuguese avifauna.

The disclosure of this part of the national biodiversity is justified “either by the contribution it will make to its protection, but also by the interest and importance of the activity of birdwatching in the national and international tourist scene», says the CCVL.

«The idea for this exhibition is something similar to the one we produced a few years ago when we challenged the team members to be curators of a photographic exhibition, at that time about Astronomy» says Luís Azevedo Rodrigues, executive director of the Centre.

«Each member of the CCVL team was challenged to select and produce small texts to frame their choices, having in the end a product for the dissemination and promotion of Science, as well as an event for our anniversary at the time».

This time, «the strategy was the same – we challenged one of the members of our Scientific Committee, Professor António Granado, to select some of his many photos, as well as to write small texts to frame each specific photograph and species».

The exhibition was produced by the Centro Ciência Viva de Lagos and it hopes that other places can receive it.

«The Center wants its investment to be profitable, not financially, but in terms of the public and geographical areas involved. We hope that other institutions, museums or municipalities, if they so wish, can host this exhibition of great interest, not only scientific, but also aesthetic», adds Luís Azevedo Rodrigues.

«This is also our Mission, to make knowledge of their natural heritage reach different audiences and regions, contributing to their protection starting from making them known, because we can only protect what we know», concludes the executive director.
