CDS/Algarve salutes elected deputies and says it will make «constructive opposition»

CDS recognizes that the results «were far below expectations»

The CDS/Algarve greeted the deputies elected this Sunday, January 30th, by the constituency of Faro, but guarantees that he will make a «constructive opposition».

The centrists had a total of 1,08% (2.109 votes), being only the ninth most voted political force, behind the Liberal, PAN or Livre Initiative.

The CDS recognizes that the results “fell far below expectations and the quality of the proposals”.

«Today CDS/PP Algarve was part of the losers. In the region, we were accompanied in this condition by the Bloco, the PAN and the CDU, which forces us to reflect politically on this result and the best way to overcome it", says the CDS, in a statement.

“This will naturally happen in the coming weeks both at regional and national levels. The conviction that remains is that the majority of Portuguese and Algarve people have resigned themselves to the current status quo», he concludes.

Moreover, the bad result of the CDS also at the national level – it failed to elect any deputy – has already led to the resignation of President Francisco Rodrigues dos Santos from office.
