Ronaldo's autographed jersey drawn to help a young man from the Algarve attacked in Spain

There are several initiatives being carried out to help young João Pedro

A Manchester United shirt, signed by Cristiano Ronaldo, is being drawn, with the proceeds going towards the recovery of the young man from Monte Gordo who, in November, was attacked while leaving a bar in Ayamonte, Spain.

According to the page “Let's help João Pedro”, the shirt was offered to the cause by Miguel Paixão, a fellow countryman of the young man and friend of Ronaldo, and “a thousand raffles are circulating to be sold for the value of 10 euros each”.

The Lusitano from Vila Real de Santo António, among the initiatives it is developing to help young people from Vila Real, will also carry out several draws for national and international players' jerseys.

The first draw will be for a shirt for Lusitano FC, autographed by the senior squad, and for a shirt for Raphaël Guerreiro, a Portuguese international who plays for German club Borussia Dortmund. Interested parties may know here how to participate.

In addition to the bank account, there are also piggy banks, distributed by various commercial establishments in various locations: Monte Gordo, Hortas, Vila Real de Santo António, Castro Marim, Évora and Guimarães.

 

 

João Pedro was brutally attacked, on the 14th of November, by individuals he did not know, as he was leaving a disco in Ayamonte, Spain.

At the time, the Guardia Civil took care of the incident and opened an investigation to investigate the causes and perpetrators of the crime. About ten days later, Spanish authorities arrested three men for alleged participation in the crime.

Due to the attacks, João Pedro suffered a severe traumatic brain injury and an ischemic stroke, which left him in a coma in a hospital bed.

He underwent a surgical procedure (decompressive craniectomy), a tracheostomy, and a tube was placed in the stomach through which he was fed. Right now you are in a state of minimal awareness.

Family and friends have sought to develop various fundraising actions to help with the youth's treatment and recovery.

This Thursday, January 6th, through the page “Let's help João Pedro”, it was learned that the process of transferring the young person to the Hospital of Faro. The request was initiated on December 14, "there were some setbacks", but "we finally got what we wanted", it reads.

«We had the information that João Pedro will finally come to national territory. We know that an ambulance with a Portuguese crew will travel to Huelva with the aim of transferring you to the Hospital Unit of Faro» explains the youth support page from Monte Gordo.

As for his clinical condition, João Pedro «continues to need a lot of care. Unfortunately, he started the new year of 2022 with fever and cough, having been diagnosed with a bacteria in his blood. Antibiotic treatment has already started. He is more fragile and with strong medication in order to remain calm».

“João Pedro will only be able to start the rehabilitation process when he is stable and, in this matter, only the doctors will know how to tell us when this will happen”, he adds.

Family and friends found out about a clinic in Seville (Spain) that “may help young people, not only with their motor problems, but also with the brain problems that are preventing them from communicating and interacting with everyone around them” .

Clinics are also being researched in Portugal that «develop treatments with the necessary specificities», taking into account the clinical status of the young person, so anyone who is aware of any is asked to get in touch with the family.
