The municipal executive of São Brás de Alportel unanimously approved, in a meeting held on 11 November, the attribution of a vote of praise to the director of the Museu do Traje de São Brás de Alportel, following the distinction granted to Emanuel Sancho, as museologist of the year, by the Portuguese Association of Museology within the scope of the APOM 2021 awards.
The vote of praise was given by the municipal executive to Emanuel Sancho on December 7, in the Main Hall of the City Hall.
It is, according to the municipality, “a distinction that greatly dignifies its path of long years of exemplary dedication to safeguarding the Memory of the Community and that makes the municipality and the São Brasense community very proud”.
The achievement of this Award is «fully deserved for the excellent work developed by this Museum, property of Santa Casa da Misericórdia de São Brás de Alportel, as a cultural axis of this particular institution of social solidarity; which is unique of its kind south of the Tagus, recognized nationally and internationally as a reference in Social Museology, with relevant work in the preservation of local memory and in the social and cultural integration of foreign communities residing in the municipality and in the region», adds the Chamber.
35 years after the opening to the public of the Museu do Traje, in the beautiful building on Rua José Dias Sancho, built by Miguel Dias de Andrade and bequeathed to the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de São Brás de Alportel, «it is up to the Municipality to praise the remarkable contribution made for this particular institution of social solidarity, in the defense of the heritage and in the cultural increase of the municipality and the region», concludes the note from the municipality.
Recently the continuation of the Costume Museum in all its functions was jeopardized by the lack of conditions to continue to develop its work.
