camera of Faro: «The regional radio landscape is undoubtedly poorer»

Municipality highlights the «Brave and brave man»

"The regional radio landscape is undoubtedly poorer", stresses the Municipality of Faro, in a note of regret for the death of journalist Gastão Costa Nunes, which took place this Friday, at the hospital in the Algarve capital.

Associating itself with all the «expressions of regret at the death of the journalist and communicator», the Municipality of Faro points out that «Gastão Nunes was, for more than 20 years, the main voice of information on Rádio Renascença in the Algarve».

«But he was also a man of the local radios, having given voice to the information of Rádio Restauração and RTVA. It covered sporting events, politics, religious matters and all other topics on the news agenda in a recognizedly competent, impartial and honest way.

Born in Angola, «Gastão Costa Nunes was, therefore, a complete journalist. A courageous and brave man, he also got used to gallantly overcoming his motor disability – and, in fact, few listeners recognized his condition».

The Chamber's note also highlights that «Radio Renascença, in particular, owes him a lot for all these years of dedication, which helped keep the Catholic radio station at the top of the Algarve's audience. But the regional press also owes an unpayable debt of gratitude for all that Gastão Nunes represented for its dissemination».

The note ends with the Municipality of Faro to address “the most heartfelt condolences”, “to his wife, daughter and other family; to colleagues and comrades in the Media – in particular to journalists from the regional press; to Grupo Renascença Multimédia and all his friends», underlining «the expression of the great nostalgia that Gastão Costa Nunes leaves in all of us».
