Portugal carried out around 113 thousand tests to Covid-19, this Thursday, December 2nd, surpassing the hundred thousand in a single day, for the second time since the beginning of the pandemic, revealed today the task force of testing.

The positivity rate of the 113 thousand tests carried out «was 2,5%», according to the statement released today by the Task Force for the promotion of the Operationalization Plan of the Testing Strategy for SARS-CoV-2 in Portugal.

According to the same statement, the highest number of tests in a day was recorded this week too., on Tuesday, November 30, when about 117 thousand were made.

Between November 30th and December 2nd, the country carried out around 300 diagnostic tests to Covid-19, "which reflects the testing effort carried out since March 2020". As of 26 November, the country has already reached the 21 million test mark.

"In November, approximately 1,5 million diagnostic tests were carried out, with a daily average of about 50 thousand tests", revealed the task force from testing to Covid-19.

As of March 2020, "approximately 15,2 million TAAN/PCR tests and approximately 6,4 million professional (rapid) TRAg tests have been performed, for a total of 21,6 million tests."

Since November 19, rapid antigen tests carried out in pharmacies and laboratories that adhere to the exceptional reimbursement scheme are once again free of charge. The measure, which now covers the entire population, seeks to “strengthen the protection of public health and the control of the Covid-19 pandemic, and will run until 31 December.

The reactivation of the exceptional and temporary reimbursement scheme for rapid antigen tests aims to "contribute to the early detection and isolation of cases, prevent and mitigate the impact of SARS-CoV-2 infection on health services and on vulnerable populations, as well as reduce and control the transmission of the infection and monitor the epidemiological evolution of Covid-19”, concludes the task force of testing.
