PAN calls on Grupo Dia to keep current workers at the Minipreço store in VRSA

Due to a franchising process, workers will have to go to other stores in the group

The PAN calls on those responsible for the Minipreço store in Vila Real de Santo António to keep the current workers, even after the process of franchise ongoing, under which it was «decided not to keep current workers, the alternative being their insertion in other Grupo Dia stores».

Elements of the VRSA PAN Political Committee were present at a demonstration of strike workers, which was also attended by union leader Maria José Madeira, and is now trying to sensitize those responsible for the store to keep these workers.

Although the perspective is not dismissal, the workers are not satisfied with this situation and claim "difficulty of access and almost inexistence of public transport to the new places of work", adding that "this solution is impractical due to the fact that they are hundreds kilometers from their homes, or by the time spent on commuting between work and home».

«In our understanding, the most reasonable and expected would be that the store, while still active, would keep its jobs, and it will need workers to keep its doors open, but as far as we know this alternative has not been presented so far. We hope that Grupo Dia finds a solution as soon as possible, and that it does not harm the company or the workers», says Saúl Rosa, spokesman for the PAN/VRSA and district political commissioner of the party.

“We live in a period when people are increasingly fed up with precarious work. In this specific case, we heard cases of people who have been working in these posts for years, with family responsibilities and with minor dependents that compel them to maintain geographical stability at a labor level”, he adds.

These workers “feel, for these reasons, pressured to terminate contracts against their will, as there is no viable alternative. It is an enormous feeling of injustice after so many years of working effectiveness».
