The Algarve now boasts ten Michelin stars in eight restaurants awarded by the tourist guide

The president of the Algarve Tourism Board today welcomed «the reinvigorated presence of the Algarve in the world reference tourist guide for lovers of culinary excellence, fruit of the stars [Michelin] won by chefs Luís Brito and Louis Anjos».

Reacting to the conquest, by chef Luís Brito, of the A Ver Tavira restaurant, in the city of Gilão, and by chef Louis Anjos, of the Al Sud, deLagos restaurant, of two new stars for the region in the Michelin Guide Spain and Portugal 2022, Jooão Fernandes "vigorously" praised the work of both and their respective teams "in promoting the gastronomic offer of the destination".

«I would also like to extend a word of thanks to the chefs of the Algarve restaurants that maintain their Michelin stars for the culinary innovation with which they permanently surprise diners, namely chefs Dieter Koschina, from Vila Joya, and Hans Neuner, from Ocean, both double-starred, and to chefs Rui Silvestre, from Vistas, Heinz Beck, from Gusto by Heinz Beck, João Oliveira, from Vista, and José Lopes, from Bon Bon, with one star each», adds the president of Turismo do Algarve.

The Municipality of Tavira has also responded to the first Michelin star for a restaurant in this municipality, in this case A Ver Tavira. .

It is, according to a note from the municipality, "a distinction that makes all Tavirenses proud and honors Tavira as a representative community of the Mediterranean Diet as UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity."

«The work, rigor and professionalism of Chef Luís de Brito and his entire team deserves our applause. This award is the result of excellent cuisine, surrounded by a historical and cultural heritage that invites you to discover flavors and sensations», underlines the note from the Câmara de Tavira.

For its part, the resort Palmares Ocean Living & Golf, from Lagos, underlined, in a statement, the fact that its Al Sud restaurant had won «its first Michelin star just six months after opening».

This certification “reflects the superior quality of the author's menu, signed by chef Louis Anjos, and the uniqueness of the setting where the resort's most recent Clubhouse restaurant is located – characteristics that provide a unique and memorable experience for visitors”.

«It is a great pride to receive this distinction, just six months after the opening of the restaurant. Our team believed from the first moment that we could make a difference, working with great determination, sense of responsibility to provide a memorable dining experience to our customers. This distinction is a reward for the entire team, from the kitchen, pastry shop, restaurant or bar. We will work even more and better so that Al Sud continues to provide unforgettable moments», commented Chef Louis Anjos.

In total, the Algarve now boasts ten Michelin stars in eight restaurants awarded by the tourist guide, increasingly asserting itself as one of the main gourmet destinations in Portugal, following the gastronomic impulse that the Iberian Peninsula is experiencing and which is reflected in the increase of starred restaurants in the new edition of the guide, presented yesterday.
