More tests, small groups, mask always: this is DGS's appeal for parties

DGS calls on everyone to "celebrate safely and responsibly"

Testing, smaller groups, ideally belonging to the same family/social bubble, choice of large and ventilated spaces, more than one table, mask when not consuming food or drinks. These are, in short, the recommendations of the General Directorate of Health (DGS) for the festive period ahead.

In a statement, the DGS begins by underlining that "the current epidemic situation of infection by SARS-CoV-2 implies that everyone should consider the risk they may be exposed to in their daily activities", particularly in this festive period.

It is because, he stresses, "the time of the Christmas and New Year festivities is traditionally marked by socializing with family and friends, favoring the agglomeration of people, with greater proximity and physical contact".

For this reason, for this period, the DGS calls on everyone to "celebrate in safety and with responsibility, adopting the protection measures that, together, form part of the protection barrier against the virus".

The DGS recalls that the vaccination plan "continues to be carried out, with the booster dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 for adults and the vaccination of children".

Therefore, he appeals, “in case you have never been vaccinated or vaccinated, schedule your vaccination. Scientific evidence has shown that the vaccine is the most effective measure to reduce complications associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection”.

But the DGS also advises “the carrying out of tests, namely rapid tests (TRAg) or self-tests, as a precautionary measure”.

Parties can be held "with smaller groups, ideally belonging to the same family/social bubble", he adds, also advising to "choose large spaces", ensuring "they are ventilated".

The DGS also emphasizes that «the sharing of moments when food and beverages are consumed can be done with due distance between the guests, applying simple measures, such as the use of more than one table, whenever possible».

On the other hand, "the mask must be kept when not consuming food or drink, particularly in the presence of the most vulnerable people, who must be even more protected".

The DGS ends the statement recalling that "it is essential to keep an eye out for symptoms of COVID-19, such as fever, cough, headache, muscle pain, difficulty breathing or loss of smell or taste."

If symptoms develop, isolate yourself and immediately contact the NHS 24 (808 24 24 24).
