There are over 238 Covid-19 infections in the Algarve, but active cases decline across the country

Across the country over 5754 cases of infection were reported

There are 3 more deaths and 238 cases of Covid-19 in the Algarve, according to the bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health this Tuesday, 21 December, which has just been released.

At national level, thanks to the large number of recoveries (+6 551), there is now a significant decrease in active cases (-813), although there are still 72 887 patients with Covid throughout the country.

Hospital admissions had, since yesterday's data, a significant drop: today they are 904 (- 39). As for the most serious cases, there is one more, bringing the total to 153 patients hospitalized in Intensive Care.

The epidemiological bulletin of the DGS also indicates that there are, this Tuesday, more than 5 confirmed cases, almost half of which (+754) in the region of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo. The regions of the North (+2 727), Center (+1), Algarve (+433), Madeira (+962), Alentejo (+238 ) and Azores (+207) follow.

Lisbon and Vale do Tejo is also the region that registers the most deaths caused by Covid-19 (8 of the 16 registered throughout the national territory), followed by the Algarve (+3), the Center and North (both with +2) and from the Alentejo (+1). The Autonomous Regions of Madeira and the Azores did not register any deaths caused by infection with the new coronavirus.

The risk matrix, which had been updated yesterday, indicates that the R(t), or transmissibility index, on the mainland, fell to 1,06, while on the islands it remained at 1,07.

The incidence rate is 558,5 cases of infection by Covid-19 per 100 inhabitants, nationwide, and 562,3 cases, not counting Azores and Madeira.
