Francisco Amaral demands the return of the Health Delegate of Castro Marim due to the "lack of control of the situation"

Francisco Amaral once again rebelled against the removal from the position of Mariano Ayala, who was, until July, the Health Delegate of Castro Marim, at a time when «cases are increasing in the county» and in view of «the lack of control of the epidemiological situation». The President of the Chamber has already made the matter known to the Minister of Health and the President of the Republic and demands that the doctor be reappointed in office.

The mayor considers that the decision of the Regional Health Administration of the Algarve not to bring Mariano Ayala back to the post "makes no sense", given that the doctor in question "is very competent" and was performing a "fantastic job".

“I was in the field every day, held weekly meetings with the district civil protection committee. And everyone was delighted with him, because he cared about everything and everyone, he walked daily in the field», Francisco Amaral told Sul Informação.

“What is our amazement when, in summer, you are exonerated. The Vila Real de Santo António health delegate was left to support Castro Marim. I wish you could take care of Vila Real…», he added.

The mayor of Castro Marim goes further and says that «there is no comparison between what was done before and what is done now, which is very little».

“Of course, this generates a huge feeling of insecurity in the population, in addition to the fact that we are at the height of this pandemic and there is absolute lack of control. Cases are on the increase and I appeal to common sense. In fact, I've already written to ARS several times. Now, I have written with knowledge to the Minister and the President of the Republic to see if there is a bit of common sense, so that this gentleman can return to his activity”, he said.

Contacted by Sul Informação, the ARS do Algarve stressed that this was not a dismissal, but the non-renewal of a service commission and that it was «an internal matter»

The same entity argues that its decision never called into question the response to the population in this municipality.

"The municipality of Castro Marim has never ceased to be supervised by a Health authority and has had an excellent performance", he assured.

Francisco Amaral, himself a doctor, disagrees and gives an example of what he considers to be “total disorientation” with regard to epidemiological surveys in the municipality.

«For more than a year, the municipality of Castro Marim has provided technicians to collaborate with the health services of Sotavento in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. That availability was rejected», he adds.

"Now, "in a hurry", given the lack of control of the situation, they are requesting support from the municipalities of Sotavento to provide officials and technicians", with training also done in a hurry, accuses the mayor in a publication on Facebook.

All of this, believes the mayor of Castro Marim, has to do with "jealousy and politicking".

"We went country's pioneers in mass testing, something that everyone does nowadays. At the time, the measure was much talked about, all the televisions and the rest of the media were here. This generates a certain jealousy», he believes.

This and other "pioneer initiatives" ended up, in Francisco Amaral's view, "inconveniencing public health in the region a lot." This is because Mariano Ayala "is very competent, very dedicated" and joined the Chamber's initiatives "without asking the regional Health delegate for authorization."

"The health delegate had a good relationship with the president of the Chamber, who is from the PSD, which, apparently, is a drag", he concluded.
