Fábio Zacarias elected president of the Academic Association of UAlg

Swearing in is on January 13th

Fábio Zacarias is the new president of the Academic Association of the University of Algarve, after having won the elections disputed on the 2nd.

The inauguration of the new AAUAlg governing bodies is scheduled for January 13th.

The student in the management course and future head of the Academic Association headed list D, which received 187 more votes than list V, headed by Carlos Sousa.

In all, 1413 students voted.

In the remaining corporate bodies of AAUAlg, Núria Rey was elected chairman of the Magna Assembly Board and Francisco Lopes was elected 1st member of the Supervisory Board.

Fábio Zacarias succeeds Vítor Pereira, who did not re-candidate after a short term – he was elected in March –, marked by the pandemic, as was the previous one, in which Raquel Jacob was president.

However, “it is expected that the next term will coincide with a period of post-pandemic recovery, leaving open the realization of the long-awaited 35th Academic Week of the Algarve, in a year in which the most southern academic in the country celebrates its 25th anniversary », according to AAUAlg.

Fábio Zacarias wants to take advantage of his first term at the head of the institution to «strengthen the association's position in relation to the equity of the social elevator, fighting the financial difficulties created by the pandemic and working with the business fabric of the region».
"In this way, we intend to rethink the business models and, consequently, help in combating seasonality and precarious work in the region, culminating in a diversification of work for students after completing their studies", he said.
