DRAP Algarve brings together local producers to discuss a network project

Meeting took place last Thursday, December 9th, at the headquarters of the Regional Directorate of Agriculture and Fisheries of the Algarve

The “Network of Local Producers of the Algarve” (RPLA), a project to be implemented in the region, held another meeting last Thursday, 9 December, at the headquarters of the Regional Directorate for Agriculture and Fisheries (DRAP Algarve), with the objective of “promoting short agri-food circuits, based on sustainable production regimes and increasing levels of adherence to the Mediterranean Diet”.

According to DRAP Algarve, during the meeting «various areas of intervention of the project were presented and discussed, with emphasis on the definition of conditions for access to the network, inventory of local producers and productions, technical assistance system, organization of production, Markets of Local Producers, Canteen Supply, RPLA branding and regulation and governance system».

This partnership is made up of public entities, DRAP Algarve, DGADR – General Directorate for Agriculture and Rural Development, DGAV – General Directorate for Food and Veterinary Medicine, University of Algarve, AMAL – Algarve Intermunicipal Community, municipalities and private entities such as Vicentina , Associação In Loco and Terras do Baixo Guadiana (Local Development Associations in the region).

For the first time, the meeting was attended by farmers and organizations in the agrifood sector, such as Melgarbe, Cooperativa Terras de Sal, GuadiMonte – Supramunicipal Agricultural Cooperative of Baixo Guadiana and Association of Biological Farmers of Sotavento do Algarve, who presented their projects and areas of development.

Scheduled to start next year, the next phase of the RPLA consists of the «preparation of candidacies for support programs for the sector of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) / Component 5 – Capitalization and Business Innovation, with the objective of creating the conditions for the implementation of this network”, concludes DRAP Algarve.
