The Left Block (BE) candidacy for the circle of Faro to the Legislative branch promoted an awareness-raising action on the importance of the railway for the region and the emergence of modernization of the Algarve line, announced the party.

In a statement, BE said that «José Gusmão and other activists contacted users of the line, in Faro», with the head of the list recalling that «investment in the Algarve line has been at a standstill for nearly two decades since the electrification of the section between Tunis and Faro, in 2004".

The candidate also stressed that «the sections between Faro and Vila Real de Santo António (VRSA) and between Tunis and Lagos».

BE states that «the successive PS/PSD governments have successively promised and postponed this absolutely decisive investment for the Algarve».

José Gusmão stated that "railway transport is, or should be, the center of a transport system, ensuring the mobility of populations and the circulation of goods and goods" and that "it is the transport of the future because it makes it possible to reconcile efficient mobility with the energy transition and the fight against climate change”.

BE assumed the commitment to defend the modernization of the Algarve line in the next term, having as fundamental objectives: «urgent electrification in the Lagos – Tunes and sections Faro – VRSA", the "linking of all stations with public transport to the surrounding locations" and the "inclusion of a direct train connection to the Airport of Faro, with the possibility of connection to the University of the Algarve».

Among the fundamental objectives defended by BE are also «the beginning of the necessary contacts with the Spanish Government with a view to creating a link between the Algarve and Andalusia» and «scrupulous compliance with all accessibility standards for people with disabilities».

Candidate José Gusmão also referred that investment in lines and rolling stock "must be accompanied by the revitalization of industrial activities associated with the railway, which have been abandoned by successive governments for too many years"

Mobility issues "will be at the heart of BE's campaign, from the railroad to other public transport, including the tolls on Via do Infante and the situation on Estrada Nacional 125", concludes the party.
