First 9 days of January with no school and mandatory telecommuting

The schools will only reopen on the 10th of January, after the Christmas break, and teleworking will be mandatory between the 2nd and 9th of January, in what will be a "contact contention week", the prime minister announced a moment ago. António Costa.

During the same period, the closure of bars and clubs was also decreed, "with due compensation".

This measure aims to "ensure that after a period that we know will be of intense family contact, the crossing of people in a work or school environment is avoided".

In this way, António Costa appealed "to everyone to limit contacts outside their family circle".

As for the classes that will be missed, in that first week of January, they will be replaced later, with «the reduction of the Carnival vacation period by two days and Easter by three days».

The measure "applies to all levels of education and to ATL and other similar activities", including day care centers, and support for parents who will have to stay at home with their children has not yet been defined.

"As for the Universities, they have their own calendar that does not cover teaching activities in this week of contact retention," explained the prime minister.

To these measures, which are designed for the period that will follow the festivities and to "avoid the tragic January 2021", is added the declaration of the state of calamity, from December 1st, with several new obligations, related to “the masks, the digital certificate and the tests”.
