The lists were approved this weekend by the National Bureau of Blocists, and present, in the Algarve, the great news of José Gusmão replacing Vasconcelos as head of the list.

José Gusmão, who has no obvious connection with the Algarve, has been an MEP since 2019 and has also been a deputy in the Assembly of the Republic in the XI Legislature (2009-2011).

The Left Block list for the Algarve is made up of 14 elements. After José Gusmão, Igor Gago, 23, a university student, and Sandra da Costa, 44, a university professor/researcher, appear.

Despite leaving the lists, João Vasconcelos, who recently had opposition in the fight for the leadership of the District of Bloc, is the candidate's agent.

In a press release, the Left Bloc says that “it intends to continue the work developed in defense of the Algarve, as it has done, through the dozens of work visits carried out over the years by deputy João Vasconcelos to the various councils in the region and contact with resident populations, with main emphasis on the struggle to improve the living conditions of the Algarve, namely in health, work, housing, environment and economy and mobility».

"We believe that the Algarve and its population, given the evidence given by the deputy of the Left Bloc in the region, can continue to trust in a dignified representation and in the defense and struggle for the improvement of living conditions in the Algarve communities", he concludes.
