ESGHT organizes gala to celebrate 35 years of Management and 30 years of Hotel Management and Tourism

Celebration program does not end with the gala

The School of Management, Hospitality and Tourism (ESGHT) of the University of the Algarve (UAlg) organizes, on the 24th of November, a gala celebrating the 30th anniversary of the “Hotel Management” and “Tourism” courses and the 35th of “Management”, from 18 pm, at Teatro das Figuras, in Faro.

«This ceremony is intended to celebrate the sense of community that has marked the academic and learning path of thousands of students at ESGHT», says UAlg.

This school has 33 years of existence, although its history began earlier, with the first Management course, in 1986, still as a Superior School of Technology and Management. Over these three decades, there were many professionals who graduated in the main areas of Management, Hotel Management and Tourism and who, next Wednesday, will give their testimony, revealing successful paths of outstanding merit.

“We are a unit of creation and sharing of knowledge, culture and science. We have trained people for various sectors of activity for over 30 years, but we aspire to the best for those who make up this “family”», says Alexandra Gonçalves, director of ESGHT.

Alexandra Gonçalves adds: «in the course of ESGHT's development there are many hours of each one of us, reference and identity brands, of great dedication and professionalism. In the course of two years of extreme austerity, we want to put ourselves back at the disposal of the region and the country».

The current director has no doubts in stating that «the thousands of students, hundreds of professors and dozens of employees who have been part of this community witness in a very affectionate way their passage through this house and recognize them as good people, who show capacity innovation and interaction with the business sector and institutions».

But, he concludes, «this moment arises above all because we have the duty to thank those who have helped us along this path of positive affirmation and also because we want to continue to count on everyone, in a future based on good practices and excellent results. We are ESGHT and we have our own identity that we will continue to assert».

Thus, in a program that brings together former and current students, professors and non-teaching staff, the aim is to show what it means to be ESGHT, recognizing the founders, mentors, precursors, but laying the foundations of a School increasingly close to the communities: academic, scientific and business. New protocols will be signed, in the various areas, and a proposal for an Advisory Board will be presented.
