The Football Association joins the Pinheiro e Rosa Schools Group to train referees

The project started this Tuesday with the first class of the Pinheiro e Rosa Secondary School classes

Train and recruit new soccer and futsal referees. This is the main objective of a protocol signed this Tuesday, November 2nd, between the Algarve Football Association (AFA) and the Pinheiro e Rosa School Grouping, from Faro.

With the motto “More Learning, More Future, More Arbitrage”, this unprecedented initiative among the twenty-two football associations in the country will offer students from the Algarve's Sport Technical Courses two more professional qualifications and the possibility of integration into district staff and consequent career as a referee.

“This program is a winner in itself because we have the opportunity to train young people. We have no doubts that it will be a huge success for everyone and an asset for the students», said Sérgio Piscarreta, president of the AFA Arbitration Council.

The project started this Tuesday with the first class of the Pinheiro e Rosa Secondary School classes and with the intention of being extended to other school groups in the Algarve from the next sporting season onwards, as well as in the rest of the country, through similar associations .

“This partnership has all the conditions to spread across the country. There are no sports or games without a referee, so refereeing is a great window of opportunity for students», considered Francisco Soares, director of the Pinheiro e Rosa Schools Group.

Also present at the session was José Fontelas Gomes, who began by congratulating the Association and the school group for their cooperation.

"This partnership with schools is very important for the development of arbitration and we completely see ourselves in this vision", said the president of the Arbitration Council of the Portuguese Football Federation, who highlighted the values that define the arbitration sector and that "should guide us, both personally and professionally: ethics, responsibility, professionalism and honesty».

In turn, Reinaldo Teixeira highlighted "the availability shown from the outset by the Group, creating a determining synergy to bring arbitration closer to schools" and the fact that those students are "the first contemplated in Portugal to have an arbitration module in the curriculum ».

"We have the obligation to give credibility and to be ambassadors of the values of the arbitration sector and that is what we also want to promote", said the president of the Algarve Football Association.

The renowned Algarve referees Nuno Cordas and Ruben Guerreiro will be the trainers responsible for the football and futsal modules, respectively, which will, this school year, be conducted in the AFA auditorium, which hosted this launch action and which was also attended by Luís Pires, representing the Sports Division of the Municipality of Faro, Nelson Guerreiro and Nuno Afonso, from the AFA Arbitration Council, José Borges, AFA's Technical Director, and Luís Brites, professor of the Technological Component of the Sports Course at Escola Secundária Pinheiro e Rosa.
