Algarviana Ultra Trail returns to challenge athletes to cover almost 300 kilometers

This event is organized by the ATR-Associação Algarve Trail Running

The Algarviana Ultra Trail (ALUT) is back and from this Thursday, November 25th, it will link Cape São Vicente to Alcoutim, in a total of about 300 kilometers.

It will be in Cabo de São Vicente that 84 solo athletes and five teams of four relay elements will start the ALUT course. This will be the competition with more female elements (13) and will be present athletes from 11 different countries: Portugal, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Spain, Finland, France, England, Luxembourg, Poland and Romania.

“This is a competition from athletes to athletes. This is the limit of our ability to know and address all athletes by name. That's why when they ask us to explain what ALUT is, we can't, because ALUT can't be explained, just sit down», explains Cláudia Guerreiro, president of the ATR – Algarve Trail Running Association that organizes the initiative.

The competition will start this Thursday, November 25th, at the Fortaleza do Beliche in Cabo de São Vicente, at 16:30 pm for solo athletes and at 17:30 pm for relays.

Each athlete defines their strategy: competition or personal overcoming, with the time limit defined by the three days of competition.

The public will be able to watch the race in person along the course or follow, in real time, here or Facebook and on the Youtube – ALUT Algarviana Ultra Trail.

The awards ceremony will be on the 28th of November, at 14:00.

This event is organized by the ATR-Algarve Trail Running Association and has the support of the Algarve Tourism Region, ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal and the Almargem Association, the managing entity of Via Algarviana, of the Municipalities of Alcoutim, Castro Marim, Tavira, São Brás de Alportel, Loulé, Silves, Monchique, Lagos, Vila do Bispo and Faro and numerous public and private partners.

Via Algarviana, which is managed and maintained by Associação Almargem, is a Great Pedestrian Route (GR13) that connects Alcoutim to Cabo de São Vicente. The approximately 300 kilometers of the GR13 itinerary, mostly located in the Serra Algarvia, crosses 9 municipalities in the Algarve: Alcoutim, Castro Marim, Tavira, São Brás de Alportel, Loulé, Silves, Monchique, Lagos and Vila do Bispo.
