Secondary Pinheiro e Rosa participates in a project with cities that will be European Capitals of Culture

The aim is "to implement STEAM methodologies (from the acronym in English for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics)"

The Pinheiro e Rosa Secondary School, in Faro, will participate, during the next two academic years, in a European project that links schools and civil society and that involves cities that are or were involved in the application process for the European Capital of Culture.

“Explore + – creative exploration of curiosity for innovative transdisciplinary, STEAM and social learning” is the name of this initiative.

With partners from cities that are involved in applications for the European Capital of Culture (Timisoara- Romania and Chemnitz- Germany, already defined as European Capitals of Culture in 2023 and 2025 respectively, and Faro and Cesis-Latvia candidates for 2027), this project links schools and civil society.

The objective is «to implement STEAM methodologies (from the acronym in English for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics), in a perspective of interdisciplinary work of the school curriculum and the introduction of creative and artistic methodologies in the educational process», explains Secondary Pinheiro e Pink.

Em Faro, the partnership also integrates the Zer0 Museum, at the invitation of the structure dedicated to preparing the proposal for Faro the European Capital of Culture 2027.

Based on the essential learning of the different subjects of the Scientific-Humanistic Courses, over two academic years activities will be developed, tested and systematized in Secondary School classes at Pinheiro and Rosa, using the STEAM methodology, with the support of the Zer0 Museum in scope of its cultural mediation work for Digital Art.

This project is part of the Cultural Project of the School of the Pinheiro and Rosa Grouping of Schools, under the National Plan for the Arts and will include three study visits to the countries involved, the implementation of an Arts and Technologies Fair and the creation of a Manual of Activities with the work developed and an Open and Massive Online Course (MOOC) to disseminate the Manual, in addition to holding a final conference in the scope of Timisoara European Capital of Culture 2023.
