To help the territory and the tourist offer there is a new “Algarve + Sustainable”

Event arises from the junction of the Bienal de Turismo de Natureza and the Algarve Nature Fest

Walks, debates, training actions and activities with schools, in an event with well-defined expectations: having «impact for the territory, for the Algarve and for the improvement of the sustainability standards of our tourism offer». Here's the “Algarve + Sustainable” which starts this Friday, October 22, in Aljezur.

This is a new initiative in the region and arises from the combination of two events: the Nature Tourism Biennial, promoted by Vicentina – Association for the Development of the Southwest, and the Algarve Nature Fest, organized by the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA) .

Ao Sul Informação, Aura Fraga, president of Vicentina, explained that, after a conversation between the two entities, it was concluded that «it was interesting to run the two events together to make it possible, this year, to launch some activities».

That's how it happened: the pandemic – and the uncertainty regarding the possibility of holding events – also helped to create the “Algarve + Sustainable” that will last over a year.

The initiative will be divided into three phases. The first one takes place now, from 22nd October to 26th November, in Aljezur.

To mark the beginning, there will be, this Friday, the 22nd, two walks – one on Via Algarviana (18,8 kilometers), in partnership with Associação Almargem, and another entitled “Caminho Histórico”, by Rota Vicentina, between Arrifana and Aljezur (12 kilometers).

The departure for both will be at 9:00 am and registration is open here

In addition to the walks, this October, there will be two knowledge workshops dedicated to Marketing in Nature Tourism (the 26th) and the Energy and Water Efficiency of Accommodation Units (the 29th). Entries can be made. here

In addition to this, there is also a debate and activities in the schools of Aljezur, as highlights of the program of this first phase of “Algarve + Sustainable”.

"There will be awareness among students about the natural heritage, nature tourism and the sustainability of resources," said Aura Fraga.

All these initiatives will take place in just one municipality. “We thought it would be good to start with Aljezur, which is also a municipality that is in the heart of the Natural Park of Costa Vicentina and Sudoeste Alentejano, one of the most important in the country”, explained the official.

The two future phases of “Algarve + Sustainable” will only take place next year, with no closed schedule yet. The expectation is that «the program will expand to other places», because, in the opinion of Aura Fraga, «sustainability is the order of the day».

“The pandemic itself has accentuated the need to include sustainability criteria in all activities. The revival of tourism and its valorization will even have to pay attention to sustainability standards», he considered.

Therefore, the merger between Vicentina and RTA is seen as “very virtuous”.

“We will work over time and gather varied contributions, from those who work in the field, understanding them and listening to them”, he concluded.
