Government authorizes Albufeira to install 65 video surveillance cameras in the city

The order was published in Diário da República

The Government authorized, this Wednesday, 20th of October, that the City Council of Albufeira install 65 video surveillance cameras in the city's downtown.

The order was published in Diário da República and this is good news in the opinion of the mayor José Carlos Rolo.

“We have been claiming this situation for a long time, in the name of city security. I have been committed to this matter since the other term, having had several meetings in Lisbon. I believe it will be a decisive factor to end the lack of security and tranquility in specific areas of Albufeira», says the mayor.

The video surveillance system covers the so-called “downtown” areas, as well as the Três Palmeiras roundabout, roundabout next to INATEL, Sá Carneiro Avenue, Globo roundabout and Descobrimentos roundabout.

According to the order of the Secretary of State, the video surveillance system must be operated in order to «guarantee the effective safeguard of privacy and security, fully complying with the applicable legal provisions».

At the moment, the municipality is finishing the procedures in order to open the international tender for the acquisition of equipment.

«We will carry out this competition as soon as possible, in order to start the installation of this equipment, which will be a big step for public safety in Albufeira», concludes the mayor.
