Festival “Walk&Art Fest” once again unites walks with art in Barão de São João (Lagos)

Initiative will run from 5-7 November

The Walk&Art Fest is back in the village of Barão de São João, in Lagos, from November 5th to 7th, to unite walks with art, in a program that includes activities for all ages and in which the participating artists will propose an installation with the theme “Countercycle”.

In its 4th edition, the festival, organized by Câmara de Lagos and Associação Almargem, will feature 41 walks, four mountain biking routes, 15 activities for children, nine wellness activities, four workshops and a concert.

The festival will also have a collective exhibition of 12 works, installed on a route that passes through the village and the forest of Barão de São João. welcoming village atmosphere», says the organizers of the event.

The theme “Countercycle” appears “as an active response to the moment we are going through”, after the “fire test” that we were all subjected to with the pandemic.

Now, “it's time to question whether the return to so-called 'pre-Covid normalcy', which we've been eagerly awaiting, should not be an opportunity to break the cycle of ideas and behavior that have brought us here and that have degraded our common home – the land".

This year's artistic installation leads visitors to «reflect on what each one of us can change and, above all, to act in accordance with that change», emphasizes the organization.

It is also the participating artists who propose and promote many of the festival's activities, all of which are free and subject to registration.

Visitors can try out artistic techniques (photography, painting, among others), enjoy wellness practices (dance, music, luohan qigong (chi ckung), tai chi, what's up, meditation) and participate in environmental education activities, designed for families (story hours, painting with earth, treasure hunting, discovering the forest).

For those looking for physical activity combined with discovering nature, the festival proposes walks, some of them themed (biodiversity, geodiversity and heritage), and mountain biking tours.

The highlight for the 6th of November, Saturday, goes to the concert by Tiago Saga, Portuguese-British musician living in Brighton, lead singer of Time for T, «here in a more intimate version».

The event will once again count on several partnerships, such as tourist entertainment companies and official entities that will promote many of these activities.

Registration opened this Wednesday, October 20, at 10:00 am, via website of the event www.walkartfest.pt, and the festival can also be followed through Instagram and Facebook through the @walkartfest.

The initiative is part of the calendar of the Algarve Walking Season (AWS) event, which includes the other two hiking festivals existing in the region (Walking Festival Ameixial and the Alcoutim Walking Festival).

AWS is an initiative coordinated by the QRER Cooperative – Cooperative for the Development of Low Density Territories, supported by Turismo de Portugal and the Algarve Tourism Region.
