Exploitation of the Praia da Rocha parking lot “gives” an ambulance to the Fire Department of Portimão

The Firefighters of Portimão purchased a new ambulance with funds resulting from the operation of a parking lot in Praia da Rocha, which was granted to the Humanitarian Association of Voluntary Firefighters (AHBV) of Portimão to raise funds throughout the summer season.

AHBV Portimonense makes a "very positive" balance of the operation, whose "revenues of recent years have made possible one of the main objectives of the management for the year 2021", the acquisition of "a new rescue ambulance worth sixty thousand euros, continuing the program of modernization of the fleet of assets in the area of ​​pre-hospital emergency proposed by the command».

"This investment, sustained and conscientious, without creating debt in the institution, was only possible thanks to the financial balance that has been achieved in recent years through the careful management of budgets, which have allowed us to bet on the requalification and expansion of technical resources, essential to intervention of the Fire Department, in parallel with the expansion and requalification of the operational facilities of the Barracks and detachments, with special focus on the collective and individual security of the elements of the corporation, frame the association.

With these complementary funds, «which result from the support of the community and add to the institutional support of the Municipality of Portimão and the central administration, through the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) and to the Association's own revenues, it has been possible to go further in addition to the operational training of the Fire Department, increasing the level of response in quantity and quality, looking for the best solutions to face the collective risks of the municipality».

The area of ​​medical emergency «takes on about 60% of the operational activity and requires a significant commitment of means and resources. Since the beginning of 2021, more than 5.000 incidents have been registered in the pre-hospital area, often requiring the commitment of 4 to 5 ambulances simultaneously manned by firefighters technically qualified in the area of ​​medical emergency».

Currently, the Firefighters of Portimão «are in the top 10 of the fire brigades with the greatest operational activity under the Integrated Medical Emergency System».
