“Espaço Entre Idosos” was born in Tavira to fight social isolation

Seniors can enjoy various activities, from games to watching movies

The Cultural and Artistic Association of Tavira (ACAT) inaugurated in September the “Espaço Entre Idosos”, a service installed at the headquarters of the community that aims to “encourage the senior community to socialize and carry out differentiated activities, with a view to good -being of the elderly and combating social isolation».

To achieve this goal, the project includes a variety of activities, including "energizing games, dynamics, cognitive and sensory stimulation, crafts, watching movies, stories and stories, thematic round tables, informal conversations and a lot of sharing of knowledge and emotions". according to the association.

The activities take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm

According to the ACAT, the specific goals of the project are to "combat social exclusion", "stimulate interaction and promote intergenerationality", "raise awareness of the importance of transmitting knowledge and values ​​from the elderly to children and young people, valuing the elderly in the society” and “promote their autonomy and personal enhancement, contributing to their empowerment”.

At the same time, it is intended to «promote mental abilities and delay cognitive decline through the stimulation of memory, reasoning and concentration» and «to occupy the free time of the elderly in a creative way, and, above all, to encourage social interaction. senior in all activities to be developed».

The “Espaço Entre Idosos” was created within the scope of the “TAVIANIMA – Formar Gerações – Capacitar para Des-Envolver” project, co-financed by the Regional Operational Program CRESC Algarve 2020, and has the support of the Municipality of Tavira.
