In November, “A Terra Treme” to teach how to act during an earthquake

ANEPC once again promotes a national public exercise to raise awareness of seismic risk

On November 5th, at 11:05 am sharp, “A Terra Treme” once again for a minute, to remind the population, school communities and organizations how to act before, during and after an earthquake.

This will be the 9th edition of the national public exercise to raise awareness of seismic risk, promoted annually by the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC). The chosen date, November 5th, is World Tsunami Risk Awareness Day.

This initiative «aims to empower the population to know how to act before, during and after an earthquake, making citizens aware of the fact that they live in a society at risk, and challenging them to get involved in the process of building safer communities and disaster-resilient,” according to ANEPC.

The exercise itself consists of the practice of 3 simple gestures that can make a difference to those who practice them in the event of an earthquake: Download – Protect – Wait.

«In addition to the school-age population, whose adherence to the initiative has been significant over the successive editions, ANEPC aims to gradually expand, year after year, the reflection and debate around the theme of seismic risk and participation in this exercise to other sectors of civil society», states this entity.

"To this end, we consider it important to involve organizations - public and private - in this collective purpose, seeking to join efforts and extract synergies from the whole of society, so that increasingly greater degrees of resilience, individual and collective, are achieved." added ANEPC, which invites "all institutions to participate in this public initiative."

This participation can consist, for example, in the response of workers/employees of the organization to an inquiry "which aims to assess the degree of perception of the seismic risk".

Any person or entity can also register for the exercise, on the event website.
