The Algarve Regional Section of the Ordem dos Arquitectos (OASRAlg) marked World Architecture Day with the delivery of prizes for the 1st edition of the Algarve Regional Architecture Award (PRAA) and the inauguration of the exhibition of the works submitted to the competition, in a ceremony held at Museum of Portimão.

The PRAA Jury, consisting of architects Natacha Sabino (president of the Jury), Célia Teixeira (Tavira Municipality), Mónica Franco (Lagos Municipality), Osvaldo Sousa (guest judge) and landscape architect Rui Terremoto, decided on the following results:

The awards ceremony was attended by the mayor of Portimão Isilda Gomes and the vice-president of the Algarve Regional Development Coordination Commission José Pacheco, whose interventions spoke of the need for a future with quality, both at the level of built or in terms of territorial planning.

Luís Matos, president of OASRAlg, presented the availability of this professional class to collaborate in these designs.

The Algarve Regional Section, Ordem dos Arquitectos, also said, «invites, encourages, strongly advises all political leaders to promote competitions for architectural projects as a general procedure, in order to promote quality, lasting and responsible solutions to society and the planet".

Because, he underlined, «architectural competitions are among the most effective ways to achieve excellence in construction, providing adequate responses to each type of program, because they are based solely on the quality of the proposed solutions, focused on the specific needs of a carefully designed project. defined and providing solutions tailored to the needs of customers and the location'.

The exhibition of all applications is on display in the main lobby of the Portimão Museum, until the 17th of October. From the 30th, it will be on display at the José Mariano Gago Municipal Library, in Olhão.
