Câmara de Lagos creates telephone helpline for the elderly

The Câmara de Lagos has created a telephone helpline for the elderly that works every Wednesday. 

This initiative is part of the celebrations of the International Day of the Elderly.

This line “consists of making telephone contacts with some periodicity (fortnightly) to the elderly who contact the services or who are referred by other entities, and who have little or no social support network”, explains the Câmara de Lagos.

Accompaniment “will not only alleviate the loneliness felt by them, but also enable the monitoring of some situations, taking care of any needs that may emerge”.

The service works every Wednesday from 9:30 am to 16:30 pm and access will be through the general number of the Municipality of Lagos – 282771700 or 282 780 900, where the municipality's social action techniques and a psychologist will be available, exclusively, at the make calls and telephone contacts to seniors in lacobrigenses.

Also within the scope of the International Day of the Elderly, throughout the month of October, the photo exhibition “Projeto Meninos d'Antigamente” resulting from a partnership between the Community Center will be on display on the 0th floor of the Building Paços do Concelho Século XXI. This project resulted in a photographic report by amateur photographer Alfredo Gomes. The exhibition's main objective is to reinforce, with the local community and the different generations, the values ​​of respect, solidarity and empathy with seniors.
