Algarve Chess Academy rises to the 2nd step of the National Team Championship

AXAL will dispute, on October 9th, the playoff for access to the final phase for attributing the title of champion of the 3rd National Division

The Algarve Chess Academy (AXAL) team, in the year of celebration of the 15th anniversary, managed to rise to the 2nd step of the National Team Championship after finishing this Saturday, October 2nd, the 2020-2021 edition of this competition in the 3rd Division , organized by the Portuguese Chess Federation (FPX).

In the 7th and final round, AXAL hosted the Independente FC Torrense (Seixal), a game held at the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth (IPDJ) in Faro, which ended in a 2-2 draw. Team chess is played on 4 boards, counting the individual partials to establish the final result of the game.

With this tie, the Farense team kept its unbeaten record in the Championship (6 wins and 1 draw), scoring 20 points that allowed the outstanding victory in Serie F and the respective promotion to the 2nd national division, for the first time in its history.

Six players contributed to the feat throughout the seven rounds of the competition: Dinis Libório, Ricardo Duarte, Tadeu Sousa, Luís Sousa, Ricardo Aderneira and Fábio Gonçalves.

In addition to the right to participate in the 2nd National Division in the 2021-2022 season, AXAL will compete on October 9th, the playoff access to the final phase of awarding the title of champion of the 3rd National Division.

This achievement «comes to give shine to the celebration of the 15 years of existence of the Algarve Chess Academy, dedicated not only to the federated district and national competition, but mainly to the promotion of the chess modality and the sportive training of children and young people», explains AXAL .
