Protesters abandon protest on Culatra island after police order

Residents of the housing nucleus of Hangares, on the island of Culatra, in the Algarve, complain about the lack of running water, basic sanitation and electricity

Residents who gathered in protest earlier this morning, in front of the polling station on the island of Culatra, in the Algarve, left the protest at around 9:15 am, following police orders.

«We received orders to leave and we will comply. We are honest and fulfilling people,” said José Lezinho, president of the Hangares Residents Association. He spoke to the protesters moments after a conversation with the Maritime Police, in the courtyard of the elementary school on the island of Culatra, which houses the polling station.

“We always stick to the rules. Let's collect our things and leave”, added José Lezinho.

Dozens of people demonstrated with slogans and posters early this Sunday morning in front of the Basic School of Culatra. They are residents of the housing nucleus of Hangares, on the island of Culatra, in the Algarve, and complain about the lack of running water, basic sanitation and electricity.
