José Gonçalves (PS) says that «the people of Aljezur knew how to choose»

For the mayor, "the resignation of the PSD and CDU led the electorate to choose between two different campaigns: one by an independent movement, the other by the Socialist Party."

Jose Goncalves (PS) won the race for the Chamber of Aljezur, in the Elections of this Sunday 26th of September, and the mayor considered that the people "knew how to choose".

In statements to the Sul Informação, José Gonçalves said that "this victory expressed the will of the Aljezurenses who made us win the Chamber, Municipal Assembly and all Parish Councils."

Despite already being president, after José Amarelinho's resignation in 2018, this was the first time that José Gonçalves presented himself in elections as head of the list.

The PS gathered 44,69% of the votes (3 councilors) and the independent movement Renascer, R, of Manuel Marreiros, former mayor, obtained 41,82% and the remaining two seats in the council.

For José Gonçalves, the other political forces – PSD, CDU and Chega – “resigned from the campaign and the local authorities” in Aljezur.

"A dismissal of the PSD and CDU led the electorate to choose between two different campaigns: one by an independent movement, the other by the Socialist Party. Each one presented their arguments, but the people of Aljezur knew how to choose», he said.

For the next four years, José Gonçalves revealed that the «priorities are some that come from a long time ago: spatial planning, namely the problem of Vale da Telha, which crosses mandates and mandates, but also the commitment to culture, housing and social action» .

«We launched four road works, the requalification and intervention in Ribeira de Aljezur, which started last week. We still have two works that are not the responsibility of the local authority, but are very much expected: the deactivation of the WWTP in Rogil and the intervention of sewage in Carrascalinho», he added.

Moreover, the Recovery and Resilience Plan will be "a great challenge for Aljezur".

"We took lessons from these elections and the PS will be able to recognize what the people of Aljezur meant."

This council «has a big challenge ahead because the population has increased, there are more people living, more children in the council, we need to increase the capacity of day care centers and schools and it will be important and fundamental work», concluded José Gonçalves.
