DiVaM has a New School in Sagres, invites you to Feel the Heritage of Milreu and to be an Archaeologist for a day

On Sunday, the project “Living memories of the Rural House on the ascent of Monte Figo” will also be presented.

DiVaM has many and varied proposals, for all ages, on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of October, at the Sagres Fortress and at the Roman Ruins of Milreu.

This weekend's activities include a lecture, the project Nova Escola de Sagres, with practical workshops, the challenge of being an archaeologist for a day, a scientific and sensory experience and the presentation of a video, about experiences and living memories of the old rural house of Milreu.

The Nova Escola de Sagres, in its fifth edition, returns to the Fortress of Sagres on the 1st and 2nd of October, a project of the Centro Ciência Viva de Lagos, aimed at young people and families.

This year, the Nova Escola de Sagres «aims to look at this territory, from a perspective of valuing the empirical heritage, involving all the communities that daily circulate in the fortress, such as fishermen, tour operator guides, visitors, water sports practitioners, among others. , from a perspective of co-construction and knowledge sharing», explains the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve.

 

New School of Sagres

In addition to the usual educational and scientific activities (associated with the construction of a caravel, maps, navigation instruments, collections, robotics and programming), this year the project also includes a virtual component that will represent and enhance this intersection between science and knowledge empirical study and the “Histórias Contadas” project.

The 1st of October is specially designed for the school community and the workshops will be open from 10:00 am to 13:00 pm and from 14:30 pm to 17:30 pm. On October 2nd, the workshops run from 14:00 to 17:30 and are aimed at families and the general public.

On the 1st of October, the Roman Ruins of Milreu will host another initiative of the Centro Ciência Viva do Algarve, with the project “Scientific Experiences – Sensorials – Feeling the Heritage of Milreu”.

This project, says the Regional Directorate of Culture, «consists of a script consisting of several thematic stations, where replicas of busts and other pieces will be recognized, through touch, exploration/identification of materials in construction, sensory activity, using modeling techniques and the execution of decorated glasses, exploring the aromas and flavors of the aromatic plants from Milreu's garden and also experimenting with digital software, which recreates acoustic and tactile sensations».

 

 

The activity takes place at two different times: from 13:30 pm to 16:00 pm – for schoolchildren that include students with deafness, visual impairment or other sensory alterations; and from 17:00 pm to 19:30 pm – for the general public and families with or without sensory needs.

The project is coordinated by Cristina Veiga-Pires and has the support of the University of Algarve, ACAPO Faro, Gestinesquecível – Association for the Inclusion of the Deaf and ASMAL. For more information and reservations, please contact [email protected]

On Saturday, October 2, at 10:30 am, at the Roman Ruins of Milreu, the activity “Archaeologist for a Day!” will take place. and, at 18 pm, there will be another lecture of the cycle Amateurs in Situ, with the theme “…why do you give them so much pain, why do they suffer like this? – The condition of children in the ancient world and the evolution of a paradigm”.

The activity “Archaeologist for a Day!” is part of the “PA´mim, PA´ti… Heritage”, a project that includes several thematic workshops, with a special focus on the inclusion of sometimes forgotten groups (with visual or hearing impairments) and diversified audiences, providing new perspectives on Milreu's heritage. The activity has the participation of Fátima Cardoso, Paulo Viegas, Humberto Veríssimo and Patrícia Dores. This is a project by Lais de Guia – Cultural Association of Maritime Heritage for DiVaM 2021. For more information and reservations: [email protected].

The lecture “…why do you give them so much pain, why do they suffer like this? – The condition of children in the ancient world and the evolution of a paradigm” will be given by Paula Barata Dias, within the scope of the 6th edition of the cycle Amatores in Situ – The Ancient World seen by those who love it. The project is by Cívis – Association for the Deepening of Citizenship, coordinated by Ana Isabel Soares and João Pedro Bernardes from FCHS/Universidade do Algarve.

In the lecture, "a panoramic approach to the subject will be made, also explaining how some extreme practices were fought and were eliminated from social behaviors considered acceptable, forcing new strategies and new habits to integrate children into established social groups and creating new ones paradigms for the relationship between adults and children».

Finally, on Sunday, October 3rd, also in this monument, the presentation of the project “Vivid memories of the Rural House on the ascent of Monte Figo” is scheduled, with the exhibition of a video-documentary, at 10:30 am, this being a project by Alternative sharing.

The project, according to the Regional Directorate of Culture, «was intended to record the memories of living witnesses, or their direct descendants, who experienced the space of Milreu, as a rural house and agricultural and pastoral area, in the mid-twentieth century».

The video-documentary was developed by Tela Leão (screenplay, production and artistic direction), Pedro Ramos (actor, interviewer and collaboration on the script) and Vinicius Almada (image, sound, and digital capture editing).

The video will be on display at Milreu's rural house until the end of October.
